Armed men have abducted a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Godwin Aigbogun.
The victim, who is the APC chairman of Ward 9 Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, was said to have been kidnapped on Monday when returning home from his farm at Ologbo-nugu community.
Investigation revealed that kidnappers came out of the bush and stopped the victim’s vehicle abruptly at gunpoint and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
Meanwhile, the gunmen were said to have reached out to the victim’s family to demand N5 million ransom before he could be released.
The police spokesman in Edo State, Chidi Nwabuzor, in a statement, confirmed the incident.
According to him, a police tactical team have been mobilized to the scene to rescue the victim unhurt and arrest the kidnappers.
He said: “The Edo State Police Command on July 18, 2022 at about 20:52hrs received a complaint from one Godwin Erhahon of Ologbo-nugu village in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, that his brother, One Godwin Aigbogun of same village was suspected to have been kidnapped and whisked into the bush by hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers.”
