Angry youths on Monday lynched a 35-year old driver, Olorunfemi Tope, who reportedly crushed two persons to death and injured six others in Akure, Ondo State capital.
His parents, who attempted to come to his rescue, were almost killed too in a mob action but timely intervention of the police saved them.
The deceased’s car was burnt down.
An eye witness account revealed that the the deceased driving a Toyota car was said to skided off the road and killed the two persons on a commercial motorcycle at Ijoka Area of Akure.
It was learnt that those who rushed to who to rescue the driver allegedly found some fetish items inside the vehicle, resorted to giving him a jungle justice as they suspected was a “Yahoo boy.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, told the newsmen that the driver’s parents were not inside the car but came to the scene where their son was being beaten to death.
She said: “The mob descended on the parents but for timely intervention of the police, they would have also been killed. The parents of the driver, now late, came to the scene but not in the vehicle with their son.
“No one can confirm if the young man in question is an internet fraudster. There was an accident that led to the death of a motorcyclist. Rather than people around to help, some of them resorted to jungle justice by killing the young man, who drove the vehicle and set the car ablaze but for the quick intervention of the police, his parents would have been killed.
“In all, two people were confirmed dead while six others injured in the accident are currently in the hospital.”
