Arsonists suspected to be political thugs have burnt down family house of an Osun State lawmaker, Hon. Kofoworola Babajide.
Babajide, who represents Ede North state constituency and a minority leader in the Osun State House of Assembly, said the arsonists attacked and razed his parents’ house in Ede on Friday night.
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo after the incident, the lawmaker said: “Some armed thugs attacked us during a ward meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ede on Friday
“After that, I left for Osogbo. Later, I was told that they were attacking my parents’ house. They burnt the house and since then, I have not seen my father. We don’t know if he’s burnt alive inside the house or they have kidnapped him.”
Before the lawmaker’s family house was razed, it was learnt that unidentified armed thugs attacked and shot at some members of the PDP, where they were holding a ward meeting on Friday at Oloba Atapara area in Ede.
During the attack, one of the party members identified as Puranga, was reportedly shot dead.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the police spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said she was not aware of any shooting and killing.
Opalola, who explained that the police are already trailing those behind the attack, said: “We are aware. We are working auscidiously to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested. The family house was burnt last night in Ede. We are looking for a way to arrest them, very soon we will arrest them.
“I have told you all that I know. I am not aware of other things yet. I have confirmed that truly they burnt the house but other things I am not aware of that. We are still investigating.”
