Men of the Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 56-year old man, Aminu Abubakar, for allegedly beating his 38-year old estranged wife, Nana Fadimatu, to death.
The suspect, who resides in Lelewaji, Shagari Phase 2, Yola South Local Government Area of the state, was said to have hit the woman in the head with pestle, a day before her wedding to her new suitor.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect and the deceased had been involved in a long marital conflict.
The police spokesman said both husband and wife agreed to go their separate ways before the incident, adding that the suspect suddenly become jealous after learning that his estranged wife, who he was still accommodating in the house, would soon be getting married to another man identified as Mahmud Rufai.
He said: “The 56-year old Abubakar was arrested for beating Nana Fadimatu, 38, over information that she was going to marry another man.
“The suspect furiously engaged the deceased on Friday, May 5, at about 10.00pm in fight. He applied force on her by hitting her with a hard object, as a result of which she fell unconscious and was later announced dead.
“The suspect was apprehended by the police of at the Shagari Divisional Headquarters after a report received from Nana Fadimatu’s intended new husband, Mahmud Rufai of neighbouring Shagari Annex, Yola South.
“Investigation so far reveals that the suspect, being a Manager of Anasam Table Water at Jambutu 50 Housing Estate, had one child with the deceased after nine years of their marriage.”
He said the suspect would be prosecuted after diligent investigation.
