Gunmen have killed about forty eight persons, including a police man and an official of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps following an attack on three communities in Zamfara State.
Also, some patients receiving treatment in one of the communities’ health facility were shot dead.
The Sole Administrator of Bakura Local Government Area, Aminu Suleiman, who confirmed the attacks, disclosed that the armed gang caught the residents of the three communities, Sabon Gari, Damri and Kalahe in Bakura Local Government Area of the state, unaware.
According to him, the gunmen rode into the communities on many motorcycles.
He further disclosed that the gunmen on Friday got to Sabon Gari Damri village around 2.00pm.
He said nine people were killed at Sabon Gari Damri before they proceeded to Damri community, where according to him, four persons, including a Police Officer and personnel of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, were shot dead.
Narrating the incident further, he said the bandits also killed eight persons in Kalahe community, a village between Sabon Gari Damri and Damri town, adding that a healthcare facility in Damri town was also attacked and some patients who were receiving treatment in the hospital killed.
He said: “The bandits in their large number were on motorcycles with three persons on each motorcycle first attacked Sabon Gari Damri and killed four people.
“Gradually they entered Damri town, burnt one Hilux vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Police, they killed one Police officer also and one Civil Defence officer.
“A military troop engaged the bandits in Damri community in a fierce gun battle and forced them to retreat to Sabon Gari Damri, where they killed 26 persons, after they had killed nine people at the village there earlier visited. A total of 48 people were killed during the attacks.”
Police authorities in the state are yet to comment on the incident.
