An unidentified personnel of a local vigilance group in Lugbe area of Abuja has been stoned to death and burnt over an alleged blasphemy.
The victim was said to have been killed after his vigilance group refused to release an arrested man, who allegedly entered a Timber Shed Market at the Federal Housing Estate (FHA) Lugbe in Abuja, in the odd hours of Saturday.
After beggeing the vigilantes to free the arrested man in the name of Allah by their colleagues, one of them was said to have kicked and made an alleged blasphemous statement that “even if God should come down he would not let him go.”
The comment provoked the group, which later regrouped and burnt down the vigilante office to rescue their man,. according to a resident of the area.
The resident, who preferred not to be named, said: “The group mobilized their people and attacked and set ablaze the vigilante personnel who insisted that he would not release the arrested person from detention.”
