Ahead of its 14th convocation holding on Thursday October 13, 2022, the Redeemer’s University, Ede in Osun State has listed a number of achievements.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Anthony Akinlo, at a press briefing heralding the activities of the convocation ceremony, said: “I will only mention a few of the university’s achievements in academic and infrastructural development in the past one year which are ultimately in furtherance of the realisation of the university set mission and vision.”
The VC disclosed that the Redeemer’s University was ranked the second overall best and number one among private universities in Nigeria in the 2022 National Universities Commission (NUC) ranking, saying the feat had attested to the university’s “unprecedented effort at meeting the global best practices of excellence in running higher educational institution.”
He said the new ranking has propelled the university to inject heavily on infrastructural and human development, therefore enjoining parents and guardians to share from the institution’s top-notch academic environment available at the Redeemer’s University by bringing more of their wards to come and study in the university.
Speaking further, Prof. Akinlo said: “The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (AMCN) team was in the university from 28th Tuesday to 30th Thursday June, 2022 for the professional accreditation of the BNSc Nursing Science programme. I am glad to inform you that at the end of the exercise the university was given full accreditation.
“The university, in a bid to train competent hands in various fileds of studies for accelerated national development, recently played host to Resource Verification Team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to assess the preparedness of the university for the commencement of some new programmes which are: BSc Public Health, BMLS Medical Laboratory Science, B.Eng Chemical Engineering, BSc Statistics and Data Science, PhD Sociology, PGD. MSc, MPhil and PhD Gender and Development Studies, PGD. MSc, MPhil and PhD Humanitarian and Development Studies and PGD. MSc, MPhil and PhD Business Administration.”
The VC also listed among the achievements of the university, admission of foreign students into some of the institution’s academic programmes, ongoing construction of the Faculty of Law building, which he said had reached the second floor level, completion of three additional storey building and three bungalow hostel blocks to be soon occupied by students.
Prof. Akinlo, who explained that the construction of the university ceremonial road is ongoing, mentioned the construction of a 150-seater lecture theater and institute of Earth Sciences, which also said are ongoing.
Others constructions, according to him, are building of an event centre and erection of a new sports pavilion in the university.
He listed many activities of the university’s African Centre of Excellence for the Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), which according to him had brought many awards and recognition to the Redeemer’s University.
The VC explained that the world acclaimed African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), which was used to control spread of the dreaded Ebola, COVID-19, Monkey Pox among Nigerians has further been equipped with a new Labcyte Echo 525 bioanalyzer that can run 384 samples at once within a short time.
While he said the university will graduate 635 at its convocation on Thursday, the Vice Chancellor disclosed that 48 bagged first class honours from the graduating students.
According to him, the 48 that bagged the First Class honours constituted 7.6 per cent of the 635 graduating students.
He further disclosed that 223 had second class upper division, saying the figure represents 35.1 per cent of the total graduating students.
Also explaining that 251 bagged second class lower division, which stands at 39.5 per cent, the VC said the remaining 66 students bag third class division.
He added that twenty one students from the Department of Nursing are in the graduating list.
The VC said Elder Morounfolu Olusola Olakunrin SAN would be conferred honorary doctorate degree of Letters (D.Litt) (Honours Causa) in recognition of his astute leadership qualities and contributions to educational development.
Giving the name of the university’s best graduating student in this year “Diamond Set” as Miss Lizzy Esther Oluwayemisi with CGPA 0.5, Prof. Akinlo disclosed that beside being offered automatic employment, she will also enjoy the institution’s scholarship up to Ph.D level.
