The Osun State Government has denied removing Dr. Folorunso Alakija as the Chancellor of the Osun State University (UNIOSUN).
In a reaction to rumour of reliving Alakija of her position as Chancellor after the dissolution of the university’s Governing Council by the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, the state government has made a clarification on the matter.
The spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed, in a statement, said: “The Government of Osun State has clarified that Dr Folorunso Alakija remains the Chancellor of Osun State University after the dissolution of the Governing Council of the University.
“The State Government opined that the dissolution of the Governing Council does not affect the position of Dr Alakija who is contributing immensely to the growth and development of the University.
“The position of the Chancellor is not part of the Governing Council and so the dissolution of the Council has nothing to do with the Chancellor.
“The Government further notes with deep appreciation the ongoing multiple support from Dr. Alakija to the infrastructural growth of the University.
The Osun State acknowledged the valued selfless, humanitarian, physical and academic development her tenure as Chancellor has brought to the university.”
