The Redeemer’s University, Ede in Osun State will graduate 450 students at its 13th convocation on Thursday, November 4.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Akinlo, at a pre-convocation press conference on the university campus, disclosed that a legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), would be honoured with a doctorate degree of Letters (D.Litt) (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his astute leadership qualities and immense contributions to the nation’s educational development.
The VC said 381 graduating students would be awarded bachelor’s degrees and 69 others would bag postgraduate degrees.
Akinlo further disclosed that 37 bagged First Class Honours, 137 Second Class Upper, 134 Second Class Lower, 41 Third Class, in the Bachelor’s degree list.
According to him, out of the 69 post graduate candidates, 10 bagged PhD, 21 MA/MSc, 1 MPhil, 37 PGD.
Akinlo said that the graduating set tagged the ‘Dunamis Class,’ had been raised as global leaders and change agents imbued with God-fearing attributes; adding that they were a distinct brand.
He listed among the various achievements of the institution in recent time, accreditation of some university programmes by the National University Commission (NUC).
He said: “In the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Human Anatomy, Nursing Science and Physiotherapy have received full accreditation status. English and Theatre Arts in the Faculty of Humanities, Law programme in the Law Faculty, and Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences also received accreditation.
“Also, new programme such as Applied Geo-Physics, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Geologyand Meteorology received the NUC approval to kick-off in the 2021/2022 academic session.
“Similarly, the NUC recently conducted resource verification exercise on the following programes – B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Information Technology, MPhil and PhD in Finance.”
Speaking on the university’s commitment to academic and research excellence, the VC said the Redeemer’s University has continued to set the pace over the years in many areas of academic studies.
He continued: “AD Scientific Index, a leading global ranking body based in Turkey, in its 2021 world scientist and university rankings named the Redeemer’s University the best private university in Nigeria based on the quality of its scientists. Out of the 50 universities (public and private) recognized in Nigeria by the body. Redeemer’s University took the 16th position and became the best among private university in the country.
“Director of the Redeemer’s University African Center of Excellence for Genomics And Other Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), Prof. Christian Happi, is now a recipient of a new 5-year (2021-2026) US National Institutes of Health (NIH) Collaborative Research Grant. The project is to investigate antimicrobial resistance in Africa, using Data Sciences.
“Also, another history was made by the university on Sunday, September 19, 2021 when it was pronounced as Nigeria’s best private university in research at the star-studded 15th edition of the prestigious Nigerian Media Nite-Out Award held at the Ikeja Airport Hotel, Lagos.”
