A 16-year old boy, Emmanuel John, accused of killing his father while defending his mother has been arrested by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
The suspect, a resident of Madala village, Karshi, Abuja, reportedly killed his father with a pestle, around 10.00pm on Tuesday during a fight between parents.
The suspect was reported to the Karshi police station on Wednesday by a neighbour, Yusuf Ayuba, of Madala, according to a police source.
At a press briefing on Friday, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, who said the suspect is currently in police custody, maintained that he will be arraigned in a juvenile court after the conclusion of the police investigation.
The police boss said: “It all happened when the suspect’s mother and father engaged in a physical fight. The suspect took sides with his mother, used a mortar pestle and hit hard on the father’s head which eventually led to his death. The suspect will be arraigned in a juvenile court at the conclusion of investigation.”
