Unknown gunmen have abducted two worshippers of Celestial Church of Christ, SBJ Oshofa Parish, Wasimi in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State during a vigil.
The victims, an Assistant Shepherd of the Parish, Oluwaseun Ajose, and a Sunday school teacher in the Parish, Dagunro Ayobami, were among other worshippers when the gunmen attacked the religious centre.
It was learnt that the gunmen, four in number, invaded the church located at an isolated area around 11.00pm on Monday and took away the two worshippers.
The gunmen were said to have operated unhindered before leading the victims into the bush.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Shepherd of the Parish, Oluwatomisin Ehuwaojomo, who said he had informed the police about the case, disclosed that a joint security team of the police and local vigilantes had been deployed to the forest to rescue the victims.
Ehuwaojomo further disclosed that the gunmen called him and demanded a ransom of N50 million to release victims.
The Shepherd said he was not in the church when the incident happened, adding that he was sleeping in his room at the time.
He said: “When my Assistant Shepherd called me almost two hours after they left, the kidnappers refused to speak with me twice. But on his third attempt, they spoke with me and demanded N50 million ransom.
“I told them that, I am a servant of God, nobody pays me a salary. I have spoken with the Ogun State Commissioner of Police. The command is on the matter.”
The spokesman for Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, also confirmed the incident.
He said: “We are tracing them. We are after them and we hope to rescue those people very soon.”
