The President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Lagos Branch, Pastor Bayo Williams Olugbemi, has donated an ultra modern Multipurpose Hall to the Redeemer’s University, Ede in Osun State.
He named the hall adjacent the university’s Boys’ Hostel (Prophet Moses Hall), after his late mother, Madam Abigail Adetoro Apinke Olugbemi.
Olugbemi, who spoke on Friday at the commissioning ceremony of the multi-million naira hall, said he was happy to build and donate the hall, which is expected to be used for devotions, meetings, indoor games, reading, among others.
Going down the memory lane about his poor background as a son of a peasant farmer and pap seller, Olugbemi, who also is Pastor-in-charge of Lagos Province 21 of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Senior Pastor of Victory Chapel, Magodo, said he could barely afford the ₦28.00 fee for his School Certificate Examination but said he had been able to reach the peak of his career in Banking.
He expressed joy for being able to give back to the society, saying: “I made a decision some 25 years ago, to give back to students and the educational sector as a whole. I promised God I would live to affect lives positively, particularly in education. So, I want to appreciate management of the Redeemer’s University for allowing me give back in my own little way.”
Also, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Akinlo, thanked the donor, who is a member of the Redeemer’s University Risk Management Committee, and his family for the gesture, which he noted “will be useful for the students and staff.”
The vice chancellor charged kind hearted individuals and corporate bodies to come and support the Redeemer’s University in achieving its mandate.
