Following the absence of the new moon sighting, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced Eid-Fitri for Wednesday, the 10th of April, 2024.
According to the Sultan, who is also the President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, the National Moon Sighting Committees across the country have confirmed that there is no sighting of the new moon again.
In line with a statement issued on Monday evening by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof Sambo Junaidu, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Sokoto, the declaration was made based on the report received by the council. Therefore, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, is the first day of Shawwal 1445AH for Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
“His Eminence, the Sultan, felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitri,” the statement read.
“The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.
“May Allah allow us to utilize the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn,” it wrote.
He also added that Wednesday, April 10 would mark the beginning of the new Islamic month.
