Operatives of the Osun State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrested and paraded a 25-year old man, Abdulgafar Ayanrinde, for impersonation and defrauding Point of Sale (PoS) operators.
The suspect is notorious for carrying out his nefarious activities in many places, including court premises in Osun and Ekiti States.
He was also said to be presenting himself as a lawyer to defraud commercial drivers.
Parading the suspect, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Sunday Agboola, said Ayanrinde was arrested in Ilorin, Kwara State, following a complaint from members of the public.
The NSCDC boss said: “Abdulgafar on 23rd, May 2023, allegedly defrauded a driver who he hired. The driver took him to Osogbo State High Court, Osun State, and Akure Federal Court, Ondo State where he allegedly defrauded PoS agents to the tune of N150,000 before returning to Ilorin.
“The suspected fake lawyer defrauded another driver who took him to Ilorin to the sum of N100,000, after which he was arrested.
“He confessed to the crime. During investigation, he told.us that he dropped out of the University of Ibadan (UI) from the Law Department in 2022 when he could no longer pay school fees.
“He said he decided to start practising as a fake lawyer to swindle people in courts because his father, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) decided to neglect him and his mother after impregnated her.
“The suspect, who said he was into crime to spite his father, however, expressed regret for his action. He said it was his father that destroyed his life. He said he denied him as his son and never took care of me.”
