Gunmen on Tuesday ambushed and attacked the convoy of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 12 Bauchi, Audu Adamu Madaki, on the highway between Bauchi and Plateau States.
The AIG was reportedly ambushed around 2.30pm at Barde Zangidi area, in along stretch of forest between the two states.
During the attack, they shot at the AIG, inflicting gunshot wound on his leg and also killed his police orderly.
Several officers on the AIG’s entourage were reportedly wounded by the bandits.
The police boss was said to be on his way to Abuja to attend the security meeting of zonal AIGs and Command Commissioners of Police summoned by IGP Usman Alkali to deliberate on the current security challenges facing Nigeria when his convoy was attacked.
