An armed gang has reportedly attacked Shika village in Giwa Council Area of Kaduna State and abducted a woman and her three children.
The woman was wife of Mallam Isa Umar, a staff member of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State, according to an informed source.
A member of a local vigilante, who pleaded annoymity, explained that the men armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the village around 11.00pm when the residents were about to go the bed.
He, however, said the armed men did not fire a shot throughout their operation.
He further explained that the gunmnen went straight to the house of woman and seized her and the children, after which he said they were whisked away to an unknown destination
He said: “Immediately after the attack, we, vigilante members in the neighbouring villages, were alerted and we blocked all the exit points.
“Some of the exit points we blocked, include that of Karau Karau and Sako villages, We later engaged the bandits in a gun duel and they too started firing at us.
“We, however, succeeded in forcing them to retreat and ran into the bush. While escaping, the bandit abandoned one of the captives, a young girl.”
Meanwhile, the council chairman of Giwa Local Government Area, Zubairu Alhassan Zico, confirmed the incident, saying: “I received a report of the attackers who invaded the resident of one Mallam Isa Umar, who works in the Estate Department, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria and kidnapped four members of his family at around 11.00pm.”
The chairman, who commended the vigilante for their gallantry, promised that the council would enhance security surveillance in the area.
He also assured that the victims would be rescued.
