An armed gang has shot dead five persons at a drinking joint in Uto Ndu, Obiofia Village in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was learnt that the gunmen attacked the popular drinking joint around 8.00 pm on Friday when the customers were busy enjoying themselves.
The owner of the joint, a woman, was among the five persons killed during the attack.
Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have reportedly been deposited in the mortuary.
It would be recalled that a group of unknown gunmen last week attacked Ayamelum Divisional Police Station at Anaku in the state but were not succeful in dislodging men on duty.
But the gunmen were said to have set ablaze some operational vehicles parked inside the police station before escaping the scene.
More than three vehicles were torched though the station was not affected.
The spokesman for the state command, Ikenga Tochukwu, who confirmed the incident, said: “The attack was successfully repelled by our officers. We didn’t record any casualties.
“Our arms are intact and our men are in high spirit. Operations are still ongoing in the area to arrest the hoodlums.”
