Armed bandits on early Friday morning killed five residents of Fobur community in Jos East Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The bandits also abducted a resident of Fusa community, Haruna Ajik, before they attacked residents of Fobur community.
The heavily armed men were said to be shooting as soon as they approached the communities, whose residents were fast asleep.
At Fobur, a resident, who came out of his abode to verify what was happening, was said to have been hit by stray bullets and died on the spot.
Also, two other victims were said to have been shot dead around a Primary School in the area and the last two victims killed at a place called Naton.
The Plateau State Police Commands spokesman, Alabo Alfred, who confirmed the incident, said that the police were alerted after the gunmen had finished their operations and left.
He said despite receiving information about the attack late, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area immediately mobilized other security agencies, including the Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) to rescue victims and arrest the perpetrators of the heinous act.
He also said that security had been beefed up in the area.
