A group of cultists on early Saturday morning killed a 43-year old of a traditional ruler in Osun State, Yinusa Okunloye.
The victim, son of the Olofa of Ofatedo in Egbedore Council Area, Oba Abdulahi Okunloye, was reportedly killed after the cult gang called him out of his residence around 12.30 am and shot him in the chest.
The victim, before the incident, had a running disagreement with the cultists, a source told the newsmen.
After killing the monarch’s son, the cultists, armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, were reported to be moving in an unregistered car around 8 00 am and threatening the residents of the area.
Meanwhile, before the arrival of the police, many youths troooed out and barricaded the road leading into the community, forcing many traders to shut down their shops and business premises while commercial buses known as Korope and commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders) avoided the Ofatedo route.
Confirming the incident, Osun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, in a statement, said: “A group of suspected cultists, numbering three, invaded Olofa street, Ofatedo and called one Yinusa Okunloye, son of the community’s monarch, out of his room and shot him in his chest.
“The prince later died and his remains were deposited at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy. No arrest has been made but we promise that the perpetrators would be apprehended and brought to justice.
