No fewer than one hundred and sixty eight people have been displaced following the collapse of the Sango Police Barracks building in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in a statement on Sunday made the disclosure.
The statement by the South West Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr. Saheed Akiode, explained that a total of 28 flats were in the 2-storey building that collapsed on Saturday evening at Sango in Ibadan North Local Government Area.
According to the statement: “Over 168 persons were displaced. The operation was successful evacuation activities is still ongoing. No casualty was recorded at the scene, a 2-storey building collapsed with a total of 28 flats was affected.
“The NEMA South West Zonal Office received a distress alert at about 6.00pm on Saturday 22nd April, 2023 of a collapsed building at Nigeria Police Barrack Block 11, Sango, Ibadan.
“The Zonal Coordinator swiftly activated the Federal and State Fire Service and other response Agencies to the scene of incident. The ZC coordinated the rescue operation and the evacuation of the building and the surrounding buildings.”
