A Warri-based human rights lawyer, Dr. Akponudiaga Odje, abducted by unknown gunmen in his chamber on Sunday has regained his freedom, according to SaharaReporters
The gunmen reportedly collected unspecified amount of money as ransom from the victim’s family before the legal practioner reportedly regained his freedom.
The victim’s associate, who confirmed his release, said: “Yes, Akpo was kidnapped but he has been released. I think some amount was paid as ransom.”
Also, spokesman for Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the victim’s release but said the lawyer had not come to the police station for debriefing.
Odje was said to have been seized from his chamber in Warri Main Market on Sunday evening by unknown gunmen.
The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Bright, said the lawyer was picked up last Sunday around 6.30pm by the armed men.
Speaking with newsmen, he said: “The police are investigating the matter.”
