A man, Adebowale Toromade, on Frida was killed by stray bullet on the day of his engagement to pregnant bride in Moro, Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.
The groom, who hailed from Edunabon, was said to have come to Ede earlier on Friday with members of his family and friends for an engagement ceremony with wife and was waiting to have his wedding ceremony today (Saturday).
Narrating amid tears how the groom, who was a commercial motorcyclist otherwise known as Okada rider, was killed, a relation said: “Shortly after the mini ceremony, Debo attended the swearing-in of the newly elected leaders of the commercial motorcyclists association in Edunabon, being a member himself.
“Shortly after the swearing, he joined others to escort their leaders who came from Ile-Ife to Moro junction to celebrate the emergence of the new executive members.
“While celebrating the newly-inaugurated union leaders, sporadic gunshots rented the air from unknown persons and a stray bullet hit Adebowale and one other person.
“Both were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where Adebowale was confirmed dead. Meanwhile, the second victim is still receiving treatment in the hospital.”
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, who confirmed the incident, said investigation into the killing has started.
