The operatives of the Osun State Command have reportedly arrested twenty five suspected members of a cult group, terrorising residents of Ile-Ife and its environs.
Police detectives have been on their trail since last Monday, when the group went on rampage, injured many residents and destroyed many properties, including vehicles and motorcycles in some parts of the town in Ife Central Council Area.
The Assistant Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Theophilus Adesokan Adekola, who spoke on behalf of the state Police Commissioner, Patrick Kehinde Longe, told newsmen that some of the arrested persons confessed to be members of Eiye Confraternity.
Confirming that the suspects are detained at the police headquarters in Osogbo, he said: “They have been detained at the Police headquarters and they will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigations.
“Peace and orderliness had been restored in Ile-Ife. I advise residents to go about their lawful businesses with the assurance that the police would ensure their safety.”
