The Oyo Mesi (King Makers) has denied that the new Alaafin has been chosen.
One of the ‘Oyo Mesi’, the Iba Samu of Oyo Empire, Chief Lamidi Oyewale, on Wednesday spoke in Oyo town at the one-year remembrance prayer for the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
Oyewale, who disclosed that the new Alaafin of Oyo would emerge before May 29, said the delay in choosing the new Alaafin was informed by efforts to ensure a rancour-free selection process.
Debunking the reports in the social media that one of the contestants for the vacant Alaafin stool, Prince Lukman Mofojudola Gbadegesin, had been appointed as the new Alaafin, Oyewale advised the people of Oyo to be patient and wait on God to choose a king for them.
He said: “Oyo town was without a king for over three years before the enthronement of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi when his predecessor died. It’s just a year since the late Alaafin died, Before the swearing-in of the Governor, the new Oyo monarch will emerge.
“I don’t want to comment much on the process of the emergence of new Alaafin, I have said a lot of things and did a lot of interviews concerning it, though we have little challenges my prayer is that God will give us another king that will better our lives.”
