An unidentified woman on early Monday morning was abducted at gun point by unknown persons Gbongan-Osogbo Road in Osun State.
The vehicle in which the woman, who was said to be in company of her husband and other people, were traveling ran into a barricade set up by the gunmen around 3.00am at Oogi Ojudo area, few kilometers from Odeomu.
With others in the vehicle, she was said to have left Ago Owu earlier and was going to Ikirun when their vehicle was attacked.
The gunmen were said to have collected phones and some amount of money from the victims before they whisked the woman alone into the bush.
No reason, however, was given for seizing only the woman.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress in Oogi town, Tosin Oluronbi, who spoke with newsmen, disclosed that the gunmen have reached out to the victim ‘s family to demand N5m ransom before she could be released.
Oluronbi, who was part of the rescue team, combing the bush in search of the victim, said: “I was informed around 4.00am that a robbery operation was going on along Odeomu-Oogi Road. As the youth leader of Oogi and also the OPC coordinator in the town, I responded immediately by calling police operatives attached to Oogi Highway Patrol and we went to the scene.
“On getting to the place, we met the driver, who told us that they were coming from the Odeomu end, and along the road, he observed a barricade, and saw about three people standing nearby. He added that the attackers collected N33,000, the passengers had on them, their phones and also abducted his wife.
“Ode-Omu Police Team, Highway Patrol from Osogbo, Sekona and Anti-kidnapping team were present at the scene too and we immediately entered the bush, but we are yet to find the woman. “While we were still searching, a family member of the victim from Ikirun called and said the abductors have demanded N5 million ransom.”
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, assured that the victim will be rescued unhurt.
