A member of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Ondo State, Rafiu Akinwale, has been arrested by the police for killing a man, Prince Adesoji Adesida, as he was separating him and his girlfriend during a fight.
Akinwale popularly called ‘Slow’ allegedly pushed Adesida, who fell and died, while he was trying to mediate in a fight between him and his girlfriend at a funeral held at the International Cultural and Event Centre in Akure last Friday.
Trouble reportedly started when Akinwale was said to be beating his girlfriend for allegedly collecting a telephone number from another man at the ceremony and Akinwale tried to mediate before he met his death.
A eye witness, who preferred anonymity, said: “As the two lovers were fighting, Prince Adesoji Adesida went there to stop Akinwale from beating up the woman, his girlfriend but out of anger, Akinwale pushed the deceased and he fell on the ground and lost consciousness.
“He was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. But the man (Akinwale) has been arrested by the police.”
The police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect had been arrested.
