A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital has ordered that a 56-year old landlord, Emmanuel Adebayo, be remanded in prison for allegedly killing his tenant, a 50-year old woman, Toyin Olatunji.
The prosecutor, Abdulateef Suliaman, told the court that the defendant, a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) pastor, committed the offence on the 4th of April 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, at about 3.00 pm.
According to Sulaiman, a quarrel ensued between the duo and out of anger, the defendant unlawfully killed the woman by pushing her to the floor. The defendant became unconscious and later died.
He said the offence contravenes Sections 310 and 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006, therefore, urging the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel prayed the court for an adjournment to enable his client file a counter affidavit to the application sought by the prosecutor.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Tope Aladejana, ordered that the defendant be remanded in Olokuta Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the case till the 27th of April for ruling.
