A mortuary attendant, Kushimo Lukman, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, is in police net for cutting off head of a deceased boy to be sold for a herbalist.
Lukman was apprehended on Tuesday morning by men of the Ogun State Government-owned security outfit, So-Safe Corps, and was immediately handed over to the police.
The suspect is said to be working with a private mortuary, MABOD, at Oke-Yidi, Abule Oloni, Abeokuta.
Narrating how Lukman was apprehended, spokesman for S0-Safe Corps, Moruf Yusuf, said: “The suspect was arrested by our men on patrol after he had beheaded the corpse of a male minor at the Oke Yidi cemetery in Abeokuta.
“Lukman confessed during interrogation that the beheaded corpse was brought to the cemetery from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, after the patient died due to complications from a kidney disease.
“The suspect further confessed that the parents of the boy, who came from Ibadan, sought his assistance as a mortuary attendant to get the body buried. So I buried the boy’s body in the cemetery in the presence of his parents at about 7.00pm on Monday.
“He said he went back to the cemetery around 5.00am on Tuesday to severe the head of the corpse and was caught before I could escape.
“The suspect later confessed that the fresh head was requested for by an herbalist, Chief Ifalonishe alias Lanroye, for N50,000.”
