No fewer than seven persons were burnt to death and 14 others critically injured on Sunday in motor accident along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to the Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, State, Mrs. Florence Okpe, the accident occurred very close to Kara market around 10:45am.
Okpe, who spoke with newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, said the accident was caused by excessive speeding and brake failure.
She said after the driver lost control of a Mazda commercial bus marked BDG 993 YG, he hit the road divider, somersaulted and went up in flames.
She said: “Twenty two persons were involved in the accident – seven men, eight women, four male children and three female children. Fourteen people were injured – four men, five women, two male children and three female children.
“The seven persons burnt to death are two men, three women and two children. The injured had been taken to Lagos State Accident Emergency Center, Ojota and the deceased’s corpses deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu.”
While the FRSC spokesperson commiserated with the families of the victims, she advised motorists to shun speed and always have a routine vehicle check for good maintenance and replacement of any defect.
