Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has cried out about poor condition of his client, alleging that he was being starved in detention.
He said the Department of State Services (DSS) only allowed Kanu to eat once a day.
Ejiifor spoke with newsmen in Owerri, Imo State on Friday after his routine visit to Kanu at the DSS headquarters in Abuja.
The lawyer, who cried out for urgent intervention to save Kanu’s life, said the Biafran agitator’s health was fast deteriorating.
Ejiifor, who also accused the secret police of not allowing Kanu to change his clothes despite repeated court orders to do so, said: “We were also reliably informed by Onyendu that his meals are no longer served regularly. Onyendu barely eats once a day, and this situation is not helping his deteriorating medical condition.
“The lawless DSS personnel have remained adamant with how they treat Court orders with levity and disdain, which is unacceptable as no one is above the law anywhere in the world.
“Be assured UmuChineke that we, in the legal team are not resting on our oars towards ensuring that these infractions are addressed with immediate effect.”
