Gunmen on Tuesday evening reportedly attacked and kidnapped unspecified number of travellers on Kaduna-Abuja Road.
The amed men were said to have blocked the road, near Kurmin Kare and operated for about one hour unchallenged by the security forces.
A lucky traveller, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, who arrowly escaped being kidnapped, said the road was deserted for the period the gunmen operated.
He said many empty vehicles were abandoned on the road.
Narrating the incident, he said: “I was approaching Kurmin Kare, close to Katari, when suddenly I started hearing gunshots. I was going to Abuja to meet a friend, who promised to give me a contract.
“Between Kurmin Kare, I started hearing gunshots, but didn’t know the direction. I then summoned courage to move, but this time, I was driving slowly to get the direction of the gunshots.
“After a bend, close to Katari, I saw so many vehicles parked, I reversed until I escaped. Later, when the was under control, I saw a convoy of security personnel but the bandits had left with the victims into the bush.”
Another eye witness account revealed that the incident happened around 4.30om.
Preferring anonymity, he said: “The incident happened 4:30pm. The gunmen were shooting sporadically at travellers and that forced their vehicles to stop.
“When they forced the vehicles to stop, they then picked the passengers and immediately whisked them away and abandoned those that sustained gunshot injuries.
“But the security agents arrived at the scene few minutes after the attack.”
