Gunmen have engaged a police team in a gun duel, beheading a senior police officer after subduing him on East Street, Ndiegoro, Aba, Abia State.
The armed men after killing the officer, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), simply identified as Linus, on East Street, Ndiegoro, Aba, Abia State, thereafter carted away his gun and uniform.
Investigation revealed that the incident happened on Wednesday around 5.00am at Tenant Road junction by East Street.
The police men on sighting the gunmen were said to have engaged the gunmen in a gun battle but the deceased police officer also known as ‘agbalagba’ was unlucky as he was subdued and shot dead before he was later beheaded.
A resident of the area, who preferred not to be named, said: “The killing of the police officer has sent fears into many of us living here at East Street, Ngwa Road, Akpu Road, Ndoki Street, Etche Road and Ulasi Road.
“With what we heard, they said they have declared war on police and the residents. I don’t know what happened, but with the way they killed the policeman, with his head removed, and how we heard they were shooting during the attack, it shows that there’s a problem in Aba.”
The incident was not confirmed as the spokesperson for the Abia State Police Command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, is yet to to make a statement on it.
