A granite-laden truck has crushed a commercial motorcyclist known as Okada rider, Mukaila Okedowo, to death and injured several traders in Ikirun, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State.
The truck coming from Obaagun on Monday afternoon was said to have a brake failure control and ran into the Oja-Oba market in front of the Akirun palace.
Several cars were also said to have been damaged during the accident.
An eye witness account revealed that the incident happened around 1.00pm when traders were busy selling their products.
A commercial motorcyclist simply identified as Gani disclosed that part of the Akirun palace gates was badly damaged.
The incident led to the death of one commercial motorcyclist Mukaila Okedowo while several others sustained various degrees of injuries as several goods, cars and motorcycles were damaged.
According to him: “The truck was descending the slopes from Obaagun when suddenly the truck lost control around Oja-Oba (Market) area and ran through the traders.
“In the accident, an Okada rider, Mukaila Okedowo, was hit and killed while some traders sustained various degrees of injury. The truck hit the gate of Akirun of Ikirun’s palace before it stopped.”
The spokesperson for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Osogbo, he said was possibly caused by overspeeding.
