Gunmen have abducted a police officer and two other persons on Naka-Makurdi Road.
The victims were reportedly ambushed and abducted last Tuesday around 4.00pm at Ahume when returning from a burial ceremony in a neighbouring community.
It was gathered that the armed men have reached out to families of the victims, the police officer, a man and a woman, for N1.7 million ransom before they could be released.
The gunmen were said to be demanding N200,000 from the police family, N1 million from the woman and N500,000 from the man.”
Speaking with journalists on the incident, the Chairman of Gwer West Local Government Area, Andrew Ayande, on Wednesday said that the area, where the victims had been abducted is notorious for criminality.
Ayande said: “This incident happened yesterday (Tuesday), you know we lost one prominent person around the place a day before yesterday (Monday) and they took the corpse home yesterday (Tuesday). The people (hoodlums) came as usual as they have been doing and they attacked the people in one of the vehicles.
“A policeman and two others were kidnapped around Ahume at about 4:00 pm, the vehicle the victims were riding in has been taken to Naka police station.
“The kidnappers were demanding N200,000 from the police family, N1 million from the woman and they also demanded N500,000 from the other victim.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson.for the police in the state, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to briefed on the incident.
