Police operatives in Delta State have arrested a butcher after stabbing his wife to death.
The suspect, a resident of Warri, was said to have committed the offence on Thursday evening.
It was learnt that trouble started between the suspect and his wife when he returned from the market and attempted to use part of hot water the deceased was boiling on the gas to bathe.
But the wife’s refusal to allow the husband use the hot water allegedly led to a fight as the she accused the man of not providing money for house upkeep and particularly for not making provision for refill of cooking gas.
It was further learnt that the suspect reportedly ignored his wife’s refusal and forcefully took some of the hot water.
The wife was said to have attacked him and rushed for a kitchen knife with the intention to stab her husband but the man reportedly overpowered the wife, collected the knife from her and used the it to stab the her several times until she collapsed.
Realizing the woman was gasping for breath and.was about to give up, the man reportedly carried her to a private hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
A neighbor, who pleaded anonymity, said it was the couple’s daughter, who went to to a nearby police station to report the incident and the suspect was immediately arrested.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident to newsmen but did not details.
