Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two members of a local vigilance group, Lawali Sule and Babangida Shehu, after allegedly rapping a housewife.
In a statement by its spokesman, Ahmed Wakil, the state police command, said Sule and Shehu, who are both 30-year old, were arrested for the offence in Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
According to Wakil, the victim was raped at gunpoint in her house in the absence of her husband on August 25, 2022.
He said: “On 25th August, 2022 at about 0200hrs, the two suspects of Dogon-ruwa village, who were armed, conspired and stormed the house of one Alhaji Gare and broke into his wife’s room. They asked for her husband’s whereabouts and knowing that he was not at home, they threatened her with dane-guns with the view to have carnal knowledge of her. She succumbed out of fear.”
The police spokesman said that all the suspects have confessed to the crime after investigation.
He said that they would be charged to court for rape after conclusion of police investigation.
