Armed men suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have attacked the Agwa Divisional Police headquarters in Imo State and shot dead four police officers on duty.
The gunmen reportedly attacked the police divisional office early Saturday morning.
Investigation revealed that the gunmen, who were shooting sporadically as soon as they got to the premises of the police station, reportedly caught the officers on duty unaware.
Earlier, the men armed with dangerous weapons were said to have invaded the Izombe community in Oguta Local Government Area of state, where they reportedly set eighteen shops, houses and several vehicles ablaze.
According to an eye witness account, the gunmen looted some of the shops before setting them on fire.
Pleading anonymity, the eye witness said: “They burnt many vehicles, set ablaze about 18 locked-up shops and stalls. Among the affected shops were pharmaceutical stores, machine spare parts, wine and assorted drinks shops, decoration shops and boutiques.”
