No fewer than twenty farmers have been killed in a fresh attack by armed bandits in Gidan Goga, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were said to be busy on their farming on Wednesday when the bandits struck.
A relation of one of the victims, said the that when the bandits’ plan to abduct some of the farmers failed they resorted to shooting them.
Preferring anonymity, he said: “As soon as the farmers realized the danger, they swiftly attempted to flee to save their lives but the bandits opened fire on them. They ruthlessly took the lives of 22 individuals.
“These dreaded terrorists have promised to unleash horrific attacks on our community, and we are calling on all concerned authorities to come to our aid as quickly as possible before the situation spirals out of control.”
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Yazid Abubakar, who confirmed the attacks, however, said nine people were killed.
He said the five others that sustained gunshot injuries had been rushed to the hospital and receiving medical treatment.
According to him, a combined anti-terrorism team had been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
