A suspected cultist simply called Chima or Jasper, was stoned to death by angry youths in Imo State after he had reportedly stabbed a mechanical technician, Chigozie Anumwee, to death.
Chima was said to have stabbed the deceased to death at Umuonyeashi, Nsokpo Ogbaku in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, over a minor quarrel.
A resident, who pleaded to be annoymous, said the tragedy occurred around 11.00am on Friday and the angry youths gathered immediately to retaliate the gruesome killing of the mechanical technician.
According to him: “Jasper hails from Amakohia Ubi in Owerri West LGA but lives with his maternal relative. The cult guy stabbed the technician, who hails from Lawa in Isi-Ogbaku autonomous communit, in the lower abdomen over a little quarrel.
“After commiting the crime, Chima attempted to run but was apprehended by the mob. When the youths realized the victim had died, they beat Chima and stoned him to death.”
Meanwhile, the Secretary of Ogbaku Youth Association, Justice Chukwunatu Nwafor, who confirmed the incident, said the case had been reported at Ogbaku Police Division.
Nwafor, however, said normalcy has been restored in the area, describing the incident as barbaric.
The spokesman for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, said he was not yet briefed on the incident but promised to address journalists soon.
