A divorcee, Nnaemaka Nwosu, has reportedly roasted her helper, who is a police woman, and her two children, to death in Anambra State.
The incident happened on Sunday when the suspect and the deceased had an argument over a personal matter, according to a source in the neighbourhood.
The suspect, who hailed from Amawbia, was said to have been accepted by the deceased into her house at Nnokwa community in Idemili South Local Government Area after she had been dumped and divorced by her husband.
The source, who pleaded to speak on condition of anonymity, said: “This woman has been divorced by her husband and shortly after becoming homeless and in dire need of accommodation, she sought help from the policewoman who offered her accommodation in her apartment.
“But on Sunday, trouble started when the this woman had an altercation with the policewoman. The altercation degenerated into a fight and she subsequently hit the policewoman with a pestle till she fell and became unconscious.
“After that, she tied the policewoman and her children together with rope, right inside their room, set them ablaze, together with the building; and they (the policewoman and her children) all got burnt and died.
“The suspect was first apprehended by operatives of the local vigilante and some of the villagers who were attracted by the fire. They captured her as she was trying to escape the from the scene.
“She initially claimed it was a gas cylinder that exploded when the woman and her children were boiling hot water but later confessed to the crime and explained how she carried out the heinous act.”
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect had been arrested and the case transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigations.
He added that the corpses of the policewoman and her children have been deposited at the mortuary
According to him: “Preliminary information revealed that the policewoman accommodated the suspect while she was searching for a house. The two women had a disagreement which resulted in a fight before the suspect hit the woman police on her head with a pestle.
“While she became unconscious she tied her with her two kids and set them ablaze. The bodies of the victims have been recovered and deposited in the morgue. Further development shall be communicated.”
