Gunmen have attacked some communities in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing seven residents and abducting twenty six others.
Confirming the attack, the Chairman of the council area, Umar Jibrin Igede, disclosed that seven communities were affected by the incident.
According to him, the armed men’s attacks, which he said happened on Sunday night have forced many residents to flee from their homes
Narrating the ordeal of the residents, Igede further disclosed that the bandits have killed hundreds of residents between January and March 2023.
The council boss, who spoke with newsmen, said: “Bandits have already caused our people to desert their homes in our communities because of incessant attacks.
“In the last two weeks, terrorists have unleashed terror on Kulho, Sahon Rami, and Tashan Hajiya among other communities. Most of the villagers in the affected communities have deserted their homes to Internally Displaced Persons’ camp in Kontagora and other places for their safety.
“We are calling on the state government and other relevant security agencies to come to their aid to bring an end to the terrorist attacks in the local government area.
“The ongoing attacks on my people are posing a serious security threat to the villagers as the attacks of these armed bandits in Mashegu are becoming unbeatable and we need serious assistance from the relevant security agencies to come to our rescue.”
Meanwhile, the police authorities in the state are yet to speak on the incident.
