The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) are leading rivals in the July 16, 2022 Osun State governorship election.
In the available figures in some of the council areas including Oriade, Osogbo, Olorunda, Ede South, Ede North, Ife Central council areas, the candidates of the APC and PDP, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, and Senator Ademola Adeleke, are moving far ahead of other candidates of the remaining thirteen participating political parties in the election.
Both the APC and the PDP are neck to neck in the race, according to many ward results in the public domain.
Both Oyetola and Adeleke won their polling units.
Oyetola polled 545 votes from his polling unit to defeat Adeleke, who had 69 votes
Adeleke too won his polling unit with 214 votes, beating Oyetola, who scored 23 votes.
Meanwhile, Oyetola, who voted around 10.55am, at Unit 2, Ward 1, LA Primary School, Popo, Iragbiji in Boripe Local Government Area of the state, has expressed the confidence to win the governorship election.
Oyetola spoke with news men after he and his wife, Kafayat, had cast their votes.
Describing the turn out of voters as impressive, particularly at his polling unit with 1,457 registered voters, the governor said he was satisfied with the exercise.
Oyetola also described the election process as free and transparent.
Also, the PDP candidate, Adeleke said he was sure that he will win the election.
After casting his vote around 8.50 am at Ward 2, Polling Unit 9 in Ede North Local Government Area of the state, he expressed the confidence to win poll.
Speaking with reporters, he gave the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a pass mark.
According to him, the accreditation process and voting was very good and commendable.
He also acknowledged the commitment and professionalism of the security agencies, whose men were deployed to maintain law and order during the exercise.
