A Sokoto Chief Magistrate Court has ordered two suspected killers of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Bilyaminu Aliyu and Aminu Hukunci, in prison.
The suspects arraigned in court on Monday by police, however, pleaded not guilty to a murder charge preferred against them.
The prosecutor, Khalil Musa, a police inspector, told the court that an investigation was in progress as Deborah’s corpse was still in a morgue at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto.
A team of 34 defence counsels led by Prof. Mansur Ibrahim, applied for accused persons’ bail on liberal terms.
The defense counsels cited constitutional provisions and sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law to support the bail application.
The trial judge (name withheld for security reasons) reserved the ruling on the bail application and ordered the accused to be remanded at a correctional centre.
