Five persons travelling for a burial ceremony on Saturday died in ghastly motor accident at Abakpa community of Ogoja Local Government Area.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander for Cross River State, Abdullahi Hassan, who confirmed the accident to newsmen, also said 24 others were critically injured in the crash.
According to the FRSC boss, the crash, which involved a Mercedes Benz tipper conveying 31 passengers to the burial ceremony, occurred at 12:41 pm on Saturday in Abakpa community of Ogoja Local Government Area.
Hassan, who disclosed that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle when its tyre burst, said: “Out of the 31 passengers, 24 male adults got injured, two passengers weren’t injured, that is one female adult and one female child. The remaining five male adults lost their lives in the crash.”
