An Akwa Ibom State High Court have convicted and sentenced Uduak Abasi Akpan to death by hanging for killing Iniubong Umoren.
21-year old Uduak raped, murdered and buried Umoren (26), a graduate of Philosophy, University of Uyo, in a shallow grave on April 29, 2021.
Umoren was searching for job before she joined the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme when she was lured her to death at Nung Ikono Obio village in Uruan Council Area by the convict.
Uduak was charged to court for murder along with his father and sister.
The presiding judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, in his judgement on Thursday, sentenced Uduak to death by hanging.
The judge sentenced Uduak to life imprisonment for the rape charge.
However, the judge discharged and acquitted his father, Frank Akpan, and sister, Anwan Bassey, (2nd and 3rd accused persons) for accessory.
Meanwhile, the convict attempted to escape from the court after death sentence was passed on him, but both the police on duty and correctional officers foiled the attempt and threw him into their waiting van.
