The operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a man, Alfa Tiamiyu Abass, after allegedly recovering a missing hairdresser’s body parts in his room.
The man, who claimed to be an Islamic cleric, was said to have dismembered body parts of the hairdresser identified as Barakat before his arrest.
The victim’s body parts, including head, hands, legs brain, among others, were reportedly recovered from the suspect’s house in Oyetoro community, Oyo West Local Government Area of the state.
A resident of the area, Siyanbola Akinkunmi, disclosed that the people in the neighbourhood have been suspecting Alfa, whom he said started living in the community about two years ago.
He said: “On Sunday, May 15, we in the community started perceiving an offensive odour and we traced it to Alfa’s house.
“But before going to his house, Barakat ‘s mutilated body was found in the bushy part of the community.
“And when the body was discovered, all accusing fingers pointed at the Alfa. A community meeting was held and later that evening everyone was on the lookout for him.
“Around 11.00pm, the door of his house was opened and he came out with a nylon bag. A young boy confronted him and alerted other community members. When the nylon bag was searched, substances suspected to be human brains were discovered inside.
“He tired to escape but was pursued and caught by residents. He was led into his room, where more human parts, including a female head, were found.
“The missing hairdresser’s family was the nvited to come and identify the body and the victim’s husband and sister identified it as that of Barakat. At that stage, the Alfa had no option than to confess to killing the hairdresser.”
Two weeks earlier, Barakat’s husband had reported to the office of Amotekun Corps in the town that his wife was missing.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement, confirmed the incident, saying: “On May 15, 2022 around 6.30pm, one Oyerinde Gbadegein reported at the Atiba Divisional Police Headquarters that around 1.00pm of the same day, a corpse was seen dumped by the side of a stream on Jibola Afonja Street, Oyo town.
“On receipt of the complaint, a team of detectives from the Atiba division swung into action and proceeded to the scene. It was discovered that the corpse was that of a lady of about 25 years packed in a sack bag, which was already decomposing with the head, hands, toes and flesh from the thigh cut off from the body. One Alfa Tiamiyu Abass was arrested in connection with the case.
“Upon interrogation, the said Alfa Tiamiyu Abass confessed to have killed the deceased, one Barakat, who happened to be his customer. He stated further that he and one Qudus, now at large, perpetrated the act. A search was conducted in his house and all the parts removed from the deceased’s body were recovered. However, investigation is ongoing to arrest the said Qudus for possible prosecution.”
