Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested five suspects for armed robbery and dealing in India Hemp.
The suspects are Monday Reuben, Thank God Samuel, Ogenetega Lucky Friday, Wisdom David and Samuel Imeh.
The command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, in a statement, said firearms and ammunition were found on one of the suspects, Monday Reuben.
Apart from the one locally made single barrel gun, four cartridges, found on the suspects other items recovered from them were large quantity of seeds and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to him, the Command’s Rapid Response Squad, RRS, working with men of the state Amotekun Corps, nabbed the Reuben during a stop-and-search operation on Uso road near Ise-Ekiti.
He said Reuben, with one locally made pistol and two live cartridges, confessed that he is a marijuana dealer with a farm for cultivating weed at Ise-Ekiti forest.
Abutu said the suspect mentioned four others as his accomplices, adding that he took the police team to their hideouts in Ise-Ekiti forest where Thank God Samuel, Ogenetega Lucky Friday, Wisdom David and Samuel Imeh were arrested.
He said the suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of investigation.
