The Nigeria Police Force on Monday said it has dismissed a police man, Liyomo Okoi, in a viral video using a machete to beat an unidentified man.
The spokesman for the Force Headquarters, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement, said the man, a police constable, with staff number 524503 had been made to face an orderly trail for gross misconduct captured in a viral video, before his dismissal.
Adejobi, who disclosed that the dismissal takes effect from today (Monday) the 8th of August, 2022, said: “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkaki Baba, expressed disappointment at the reports of brutality and extortion leveled against some police officers via various complaint channels available to the public, particularly on social media platforms.
“The IGP, therefore, has directed all supervising Commissioners of Police and Tactical/Strategic Commanders to ensure strict supervision of their personnel as further incidences of this nature would be viewed strictly.”
