The Osun State governor, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, on Friday finally broke his silence after he was defeated by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, at the Saturday July 16, 2022 governorship election.
Speaking with leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Government House, Oke Fia, Osogbo, Oyetola, described his defeat as a test of God.
Advising the party supporters to see the defeat as a temporary set back for the APC in Osun State, also described as laughable the rumours that he had run away as soon as the election result was announced.
Oyetola, who said he also heard the PDP saying he was trying to convert government assets to his personal use, asked the party faithful to remain calm.
He said: “I summoned all of you here to assure you that the present situation is just a temporary setback. It is a test of our resolve by God and we will continue to stand by him. Ours is God’s project and we shall not despair.
“Go back to your various units and wards across the state and continue with regular party activities, hold your meetings regularly. We have bigger projects ahead and we must not allow this temporary set back distract us.
“We should not allow the outcome of the election cause dissatisfaction and division among us. The APC remains the ruling party in the state.
“So, let us be peaceful and united from ward to local government and to state. Any party member, who has grievances to channel them to the appropriate quarters and stop expressing them in the social media, in the interest of our party.
“As governor of Osun, I would continue to govern with fear of God and love of the people. I assure you of my commitment to the well-being of the people and development of the state.”
