One person on Wednesday was killed and several others injured in a violent clash between two All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter groups in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Trouble reportedly started when supporters of Senator Magnus Abe met the gate of the party’s secretariat locked around 6.00 am.
The supporters were said to have alleged that there was a plan to manipulate the process of delegate selection for the state assembly aspirants screening and ward/state exercise.
A protest started by the group, whose members wanted to forcefully open the secretariat gate was said to have led to a fight with another group.
A source within the venue of the exercise said the situation degenerated and it turned to a violent fight, leading to death of a member of the party.
The security men deployed to the venue to maintain peace and order had to use tear gas to disperse the protesters, according to the source, who pleaded annoymity.
